Bee Cave City Council has approved a funding agreement with TxDOT to expand the busy intersection of Hwy. 71, Hamilton Pool Road and Bee Cave Parkway near the Hill Country Galleria, Community Impact reports. The city had backed an "innovative" design such as a diverging diamond in 2024, but staff and TxDOT concluded that widening the existing intersection would be faster and work better for pedestrians.

The plan adds a second left-turn lane on westbound Hwy. 71, second right-turn lanes from southbound Bee Cave Parkway and northbound Hamilton Pool Road, and new acceleration lanes, along with new signals, sidewalks and pedestrian crossings, and possible drainage work.

Bee Cave's share is estimated at about $2.8 million for the Bee Cave Parkway side, while the state would cover roughly $3.7 million for the Hwy. 71 and Hamilton Pool Road work. There's no construction timeline yet; TxDOT needed the city's resolution before finalizing the agreement.
