State puts flood rescue teams on standby as Vance's remnants bring storms to the Hill Country
Gov. Greg Abbott has told the Texas Division of Emergency Management to activate state response resources as several rounds of storms, fed by the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Vance and Gulf moisture, move across Texas starting today, FOX 7 Austin reports. Forecasters say the storms could produce heavy rain and flash flooding.
The Hill Country is on the list of areas with the greatest concern for excessive rainfall, along with the Permian Basin, Big Bend, the South Plains, the Big Country and the border regions. State agencies on standby include Texas A&M Task Force 1 with swiftwater rescue boat squads, Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens with rescue boats and hoist-equipped helicopters, DPS troopers and its Tactical Marine Unit, and TxDOT crews watching road conditions.
Around Lake Travis, the heaviest totals are expected farther west, but downpours can still flood low-water crossings quickly. Never drive or walk through water over the road, and keep an eye on the forecast if you plan to be on the water over the next few days.
