Another triple-digit day in the mix before a slight rain chance

Austin is saying goodbye to July and hello to August with the start of the year’s hottest stretch, though a chance of rain could interrupt the heat. Today’s afternoon highs will climb into the upper 90s to low 100s, likely giving Austin its fifth triple-digit day of the year under mostly sunny skies and light winds, with heat index values expected to reach 100–107°.


A weak cold front arrives Saturday afternoon, cooling temperatures back into the upper 90s across the Austin metro and eastern counties while bringing only spotty showers and storms with limited rainfall under a quarter-inch. By Sunday the front fades, rain chances disappear, skies turn mostly sunny, and humidity drops briefly before bouncing back next week along with a return of triple-digit heat.
