Travis County lifts its burn ban, but officials still urge caution with outdoor burning
Outdoor burning is allowed again in unincorporated Travis County. The county fire marshal's office lifted the burn ban on Tuesday, Nov. 3, after recent rain raised moisture levels and lowered wildfire risk around the county, including the unincorporated areas around Lake Travis.
That means residents can burn brush, debris and other allowed material again, as long as it follows state rules in Texas Administrative Code 30 TAC 111.219. Fire Marshal Gary Howell said burning still carries risk, so keep water or a fire extinguisher close, and call 911 right away if a fire gets out of hand.
Before you light anything, check with your local fire department about notification or permits. The fire marshal's office can help you figure out which department to call at 512-854-4621, and you can get burn ban updates by texting TCBURNBAN to 888777. With gusty north winds of up to 25 mph in the forecast for Friday, it's a good day to hold off.
