Cold front may be headed to Texas

 Central Texas is still looking at more triple-digit days, but CBS Austin meteorologist Avery Tomasco offered an early, cautious hint of a break. About 10 days out, he said a pattern shift could bring the season’s first cooler air around Sept. 21 — near the first day of fall on Sept. 22. He warned it is highly unlikely people will need sweaters. The better hope is an end to the stretch of 100-degree days. Tomasco called the call “way-too-early” and “reckless,” and noted long-range forecasts can change fast.
That timing lines up with typical September weather from the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio office. Summer heat often lasts through the month, but September usually brings South-Central Texas its first significant fall cold front and a better shot at rain than August. Typical fronts can ease highs from the mid-90s into the upper 80s and lows into the mid-60s, with average rainfall of 2 to 4 inches and little severe-weather risk. Cold fronts are already moving through North Texas and the Panhandle. Whether Central Texas is next is still an open question.
