Lake Travis Fishing Report - January 20232,999 Readers ![]() Water Temp: 59 degrees Unseasonable warm weather has kept water temperatures higher than they normally are this time of year and the fish shallower. Hydrilla has also established itself all over the lake and is ideal habitat for bass. With this warmer weather, I’ve been targeting bass holding in hydrilla on shallow flats. Bass are not everywhere in the grass, so covering water is extremely important. Once you get a bite, there is a good chance there are more fish nearby, so soak areas where you get bites thoroughly. My primary lure choices have been shallow running finesse crankbaits, swimbaits, and spinnerbaits. There is usually a morning bite when bass are willing and eager to chase and eat your lure. When the feeding window closes, I’ve been slowing down with weightless flukes, Senkos, and Texas rigged soft plastics worked more slowly and deliberately in the same areas. As the weather cools down, expect the fish to move deeper. Grass edges in 12-18 ft are good staging points for Winter bass to ambush nearby prey I’ll also target Winter fish on deeper rock on points and ledges. Slowing down your presentations will be key to catching these cold water fish. But until that cold weather arrives, enjoy this great shallow water grass bite!!
