Lake Travis Fishing Report - July 20193,355 Readers ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Water Temp: 82.0 degrees The bass on Lake Travis have moved out to their summer haunts and have settled into their summer feeding patterns. I’ve been finding schooling bass suspended over deep water all over the lake. These fish are feeding heavily on threadfin shad. The fish have been most active during the low light periods of the day. During these periods, crankbaits, swimbaits, jerk baits, and top waters have all been getting crushed by actively feeding bass. Some days the bass will hit all of these lures but on most days, they will prefer one or two over the others. If you’re not getting bit on presentation, don’t hesitate to switch and try another lure, especially if you know you’re around feeding fish. After the sun gets high, Carolina rigged and shaky head soft plastics worked slowly along the bottom have also been producing. I haven’t been fishing any deeper than 35’ with these bottom crawling presentations. Weightless flukes and Senkos fished around boat docks and marinas are also producing. Cast these baits into the shaded portions of the dock and let it sink. Early bite detection is key to landing these fish. Often times you won’t feel the fish bite, he will just “be there.” Go as high as you can on your line size and gear because the cables, dock floats, and angle iron are all covered with zebra mussels that are causing a lot of break offs.
