Lake Travis Fishing Report - April 20172,133 Readers   Water Temp: 72 degrees Bass are in all phases right now. Some bass are done spawning, some are on beds, and some are just moving up. As such, you can really catch them any way you want. My clients and I are catching pre-spawn and post-spawn fish on a multitude of baits, depending on conditions. If winds lay down, flukes and senkos cast to shoreline cover in 10 to 20 feet of water have been very productive. Be sure not to overwork the bait. The slow sink is what closes the deal on these fish. If overcast conditions are present, top waters worked slowly over likely bedding areas are drawing vicious strikes from bass protecting their fry and/or beds. Texas-rigged soft plastic worms and craws are also catching fish. Target brush on main lake and secondary points in 15 – 20 ft. of water with and slowly work your plastic along the bottom and through the cover. Bites generally occur when the bait works through a rock/rock pile or pulls through the limb or a tree/bush. Catch of the week goes to Nick and Ashley Marroquin from Midland, Texas. Within our first hour of fishing, Nick hooked into a solid 3 ½ lb. largemouth on a top water and Ashley caught her first bass ever on a fluke. The bite continued getting better and culminated with Nick hooking and landing a beautiful 6 lb. largemouth. At the end of the day, we totaled over 40 fish caught with our best 5 going for just under 22 lbs.
