Additional counselors were on hand at a Lake Travis ISD school Wednesday after a student was killed when a driver rear-ended the SUV in which she was riding.

It happened at 620 and Comanche Trail in Travis County just after 8:30 Tuesday night.

Texas Department of Public Safety investigators say an SUV was stopped at a red light when a pickup truck hit it from behind.

Troopers say the driver of the pickup truck, identified as Michael Winders, 40, of Round Rock, couldn't stop in time.

It’s unclear how fast he was going when he hit the SUV, but troopers say the impact killed Josefina Delgado, 7.

The Lake Travis Elementary School student was the only one inside the SUV who died.  The other four survived. Troopers say everyone but the young girl was wearing a seatbelt.

Two other children in the SUV -- a 15-year-old girl and 11-year-old boy were taken to Dell Children's Medical Center.

The drivers of both vehicles and the young girl's mother were treated at Brackenridge.

Troopers say they are all in stable condition.
