With the lake full, local law enforcement agencies are expecting more people on Lake Travis this Memorial Day weekend.

Game wardens will be patrolling the lake, hoping to curb the number of injuries and fatalities they say they often see during holiday weekends.

When water rises, so does the number of visitors on Lake Travis and the risk of boating injuries that sometimes end fatally.

There were seven fatalities on Lake Travis in 2016. So far this year, two have died.

With Memorial Day ahead, officials are ramping up their patrol efforts, checking boats for life jackets, proper safety equipment, and people driving under the influence.

Officials say many of the water deaths that happen each year in Texas have one thing in common: People aren't wearing their life jackets.

Game wardens say the last person who drowned at Lake Travis wasn't wearing a life jacket. He was holding onto one, but accidentally let go.

Game wardens will be increasing safety checks on Lake Travis throughout the weekend and watching out for drunk drivers.
