Lake Travis’ Bacon ties national HR record

Lake Travis senior Zoe Bacon tied a National Federation of State High School Association record Saturday with back-to-back home runs in the Cavaliers’ 11-4 win over Westlake at the Lake Travis High School softball complex.

Bacon was 2 for 3 against the Chaps, hitting home runs in the third and fourth inning to bring her total to five in five at bats. On Friday, she hit three home runs in Lake Travis’ 7-4 win over Austin High.

Only two other players have accomplished this feat, according to the NFHS. Aubrey Martin of Muscantiene High School in Iowa in 2002 and Amanda Emelander of Wyoming Lee High School in Michigan in 2014.

“It’s not like I go up there trying to (hit home runs), I just want to make good contact,” Bacon said. “It’s great that turned out as home runs, but I’m more excited that they scored runs for my team and and we ended up winning both games.”

Her first Saturday was a two-run blast over the left field wall in the third inning. Her second was also a two-run shot in the same location in the fourth. In Lake Travis’ last two games, Bacon has gone 5 for 6 with five home runs and nine RBIs.

Saturday’s win moved the Cavaliers (11-4, 6-0 District 14-6A) into first place in the district.
