Know Austinites who regularly give back to the community through volunteering and helping others?

The award-winning Lake Austin Spa Resort wants to hear about them.

The spa, which is on the shore of Lake Austin, has announced a new Austin Angels program, which is meant to raise awareness about charities and organizations as well as reward Austinites who donate countless hours to community service and outreach.

Mike McAdams, co-owner of Lake Austin Spa Resort, said in a media release, “Not only do we like to support local charities such as the Austin Humane Society, Animal Trustees of Austin and the Breast Cancer Resource Center throughout the year, but we also wanted to recognize individuals whose efforts may otherwise go unnoticed. Without volunteer efforts, many of our community projects may not otherwise exist.”

Here’s how the giveaway works: Now through Dec. 24, you can nominate an individual who demonstrates a strong commitment to volunteering.

Twelve winners will be selected at random and featured on Lake Austin Spa Resort’s Web site. Winners will be announced on Dec. 28. They will be rewarded with a LakeHouse Full Day Away gift certificate to the spa, which can be used during 2010.

The spa prize is a one 80-minute spa treatment, two 50-minute spa treatments, gourmet lunch in the LakeHouse Spa’s Aster Cafe, and access to the spa facilities, including the sauna, steam rooms and whirlpool. Gratuities for services will be included.

Nominations can be submitted through the spa resort’s Web site. Also, you can find contest information on Facebook and Twitter.

During the nomination period, a list of charities and service organizations based on the nominee’s volunteer service will be compiled and posted on the spa’s Web site.
