Lightning and rain hit Central Texas overnight. Parts of the Hill Country saw more than four inches of rain as a major cold front rolled into Austin.

Seven low water crossings were closed around Austin on Friday. And this time much of the rain that fell helped improve drought conditions.

Marble Falls got nearly five inches of rain, and some rain gauges in southern Burnet County registered over five inches.

There were reports of flooding around midnight, but the water didn't cause any major issues.

The rain prompted the Lower Colorado River Authority to open the flood gates at Starkey Dam. This allowed the water to flow into Lake Travis where it will stay. The LCRA says they will not open any flood gates on Lake Travis Friday.

Three of the low water crossings were closed near Bull Creek. The other four were west of MoPac near Parmer Lane and Waters Park Road.
