A historic stone lodge on Lake Austin, originally built in the 1930s by Walter Bohn, heir to the Bohn Brothers Department Store, is now on the market for $16 million. Located at 3201 Rivercrest Dr. in Austin’s prestigious Rivercrest neighborhood, the property, which includes a three-bedroom home, a stone boathouse, a dock, and 115 feet of private river frontage, has been in the Bohn family for nearly a century. The estate, featuring a hand-hewn limestone exterior, a covered patio with stone arches, and a pecan grove, was the first home in the Rivercrest area and once belonged to a family connected to Matthew McConaughey, who reportedly bought a nearby estate and built a friendly rapport with the late owner, Conrad Bohn.

The property spans five parcels, with four on a gentle slope south of Rivercrest Drive and one directly on the water, offering 4.3 acres of rare Lake Austin real estate. Conrad Bohn, who passed away in 2024 at 97, transformed the original fishing lodge into his full-time residence after returning to Austin in 1980. The Bohn family’s legacy is tied to Austin’s history through their department store, a downtown staple for nearly 70 years, and Walter’s contributions to developing Rivercrest. The listing agent, Cathy Romano, emphasizes the unique community feel of the neighborhood and the rarity of such a large, historic riverfront property, making it a significant piece of Texas heritage ready for its next chapter.
