5:30 p.m. update:
Officials confirmed Monday that a 23-year-old man found floating in Lady Bird Lake on Sunday was a University of Texas student.

“The loss of Santiago is devastating to our entire university. We express our deepest sympathies to his family and friends,” said UT police Chief David Carter.

Santiago Gonzalez Becerra, a graduate business student in the accounting-professional program, was reported missing by his sister on Thursday. He was found dead Sunday morning in the lake near the 2800 block of Stratford Lane, police said.

The cause and manner of death are still undetermined pending a toxicology report, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Earlier: A man whose body was found Sunday in Lady Bird Lake has been identified as 23-year-old Santiago Gonzalez Becerra, according to the Travis County medical examiner’s office.

A person traveling by canoe found Gonzalez Becerra’s body floating Sunday morning near the 2800 block of Stratford Lane, between Redbud Trail and MoPac Boulevard (Loop 1), police said.

The cause and manner of death are still undetermined pending a toxicology report, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Police are investigating the man’s death but said it did not appear suspicious, a police spokesperson said.
