The National Weather Service predicts that Austin will receive more rain over the next four days than it has over the past three-and-a-half months.

The Austin metro area, parts of the eastern Hill Country and regions along the Interstate 35 corridor, such as Bastrop County, which is still recovering from the Hidden Pines wildfire, will be hit hardest by the heavy rains, according to the weather service.

Rain chances will increase each day in Central Texas beginning nWednesday and continuing through Saturday night, raising the threat for flooding, according to the weather service.

The weather service stated that the best chances for heavy rain will be on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, just as the University of Texas football game is getting underway.

Rainfall amounts are expected to reach 3 to 6 inches, with pockets of 8 to 10 inches in isolated spots, according to the weather service.

The weather service is warning that the heavy rain could lead to flooding and lightning that may disrupt outdoor activities. They suggest that residents keep a close eye on updated weather forecasts as details of the potentially dangerous amount of rain become more available.
