Lake Travis tops Victoria West to reach 4A state semifinals

For the second time in three seasons, Lake Travis' volleyball team will be playing in the UIL state tournament.


The Cavaliers (46-2) earned a berth in the Class 4A state semifinals on Saturday, sweeping aside Victoria West (36-6) in the Region IV final in San Antonio. Lake Travis will open play at the state tournament in San Marcos on Thursday.


The 4A field also includes Richardson Pearce, which entered the postseason as the top-ranked team in the Texas Girls Coaches Association's state poll. The Cavaliers opened the playoffs ranked second in the state.


Amy Neal posted 17 kills for the Cavaliers in their 25-13, 25-15, 25-7 victory, while Katy Beals and Cassie Wang combined for 40 assists. Mackenzie Mayo added 15 digs for Lake Travis, and Sierra Patrick finished with 31/2 blocks.


Lake Travis defeated San Antonio Edison on Friday in the regional semifinals.
