The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) will begin an eight-week planned drawdown of Inks Lake starting Wednesday, October 1. The water level will be lowered by approximately one foot per day, reaching a reduction of about eight feet—bringing the lake down to between 879 and 879.5 feet above mean sea level—by October 9. The purpose of this drawdown is to allow property owners to carry out maintenance tasks such as dock repairs, debris removal, dredging, and shoreline structure improvements like retaining walls and boat slips. Once maintenance concludes, the lake will begin refilling on Monday, November 24, with the process expected to be complete by Friday, November 28.

LCRA will release around 5,000 acre-feet of water through the Inks Dam hydroelectric generator during the drawdown. This release will cause downstream Lake Travis to rise by approximately 3½ inches, while water used to refill Inks Lake will come from Lake Buchanan, resulting in a slight drop there—estimated at less than three inches—if no additional rainfall occurs. Dock repairs during the drawdown don’t require permits but must comply with LCRA’s Safety Standards for Residential Docks. More extensive work, including dredging (up to 2,000 cubic yards), retaining wall repairs, and boat ramp maintenance, requires registration and authorization under LCRA’s Lakewide Permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. All work must be completed by November 28.
