In fall and winter the sun sets earlier, so a sunset dinner can be well before closing. In summer, sunset comes late in the evening, closer to closing time, so check the hours against today’s sunset.

Tips for a better sunset evening

  • Go early on weekends. Sunset is the main event here, and the best deck spots go first.
  • Bring a layer. It’s often breezier up on the hill than in town, especially after the sun drops.
  • Watch the clouds, not just the clock. A few high clouds usually make for a more colorful sunset than a perfectly clear sky.
  • Stay for the afterglow. The color often peaks 10 to 20 minutes after the sun goes down.

Coming by boat or making a weekend of it?

Lake Travis looks different at every level: the view from the decks changes as the water rises and falls, and so do the coves and ramps if you’re spending the day on the water first. Head back to the ramp before dark, as navigating an unfamiliar lake at night is much harder. To stay the night, browse Lake Travis lodging, or see other lakeside restaurants for another evening.

Ramps & marinas at today’s level (677.1 ft)

The lake is close to full, a good level for most of the shoreline. Ramps still vary, so check the one you plan to use. Each public ramp has its own lowest usable elevation, and marinas can move docks or limit services when the level drops.
