Mississippi quarterback Jevan Snead decommitted from Florida because
of Tim Tebow, an eventual Heisman winner. Then he transferred from
Texas because of Colt McCoy, who became the winningest quarterback in
college football history.
Coincidentally, he’s competing with both quarterbacks for draft attention at the NFL combine.
Snead said he doesn’t regret leaving the Longhorns after his freshman year in 2006.
“It definitely was a tough decision,” Snead said Friday. “Basically
came down to Texas having two great quarterbacks. Colt did a tremendous
job and never slipped at all.
“I could have stayed there and waited to see if he slipped up. And I would’ve missed my chance.”
Snead, who starred at Stephenville High School, received his degree
from Mississippi in December. He declared for the NFL with a season of
eligibility remaining.
Snead said he made the decision to leave early after consulting his
family and talking to Chad Morris, then the Lake Travis High School
coach. Morris coached Snead at Stephenville.
