- Having dropped from a reported 2,182 students in the 2008
reclassification and realignment to 2,127.5 this time, Temple was
thought to be a candidate to drop from Class 5A to 4A. However, the 5A
minimum decreased 20 students to 2,065, so Temple stayed up
comfortably. The last time the 5A cutoff dropped was 20 years ago.
- Killeen, the only non-5A Killeen ISD high school, was shipped
from District 25-4A in Region IV to 8-4A in Region I. The Kangaroos no
longer will have to play three-time reigning state football champion
Austin Lake Travis, but new district opponents Stephenville and San
Angelo Lake View aren't exactly nearby.
- Lampasas fell from 4A and Salado rose from 2A to join each other
in 3A's District 25, which includes football stalwarts Liberty Hill and
Burnet. Salado, whose enrollment went up 70 students since the 2008
realignment, will compete above the 2A level for the first time.
- Gatesville is moving from District 7-3A in Region I to 19-3A in
Region III. That puts Gatesville in the same region as Rockdale.
- Longtime 3A school Cameron Yoe dropped to 2A and will join Academy
and Troy for football in Division I's District 12. When Yoe and Milam
County rival Rockdale meet next season in the annual "Battle of the
Bell," it will be the first time since 1999 that it's a non-district
game.
- Moody dropped from 2A to Class A and for football will play in Division I's District 12, which has no other area teams.
