Kelseyville put up a fight before falling to defending Coastal Mountain Conference champion Upper Lake 49-27 on Wednesday during a tri-team meet in Point Arena.

Both teams also beat a five-man Point Arena squad Kelseyville 66-16 and Upper Lake 71-0.

"We didn't wrestle as well as we could have but Kelseyville wrestled great," Upper Lake head coach Tom Cox said. "They are coming on strong and looked very good. We were actually lucky to come out on top."

Upper Lake winners included Fwee Chao by pin at 112 pounds, Robert Simondi by decision at 125 pounds, Bruce Tucker by technical fall at 145 pounds, Brandon Sneathen by technical fall at 152 pounds, Bradley Bracket by technical fall at 160 pounds, Andrew Frazier by technical fall at 189 pounds, and Ben Britton by decision at 215 pounds.

One of the night's best matches pitted Kelseyville's Cristian Gomora against Upper Lake's Travis Coleman at 119 pounds. Gomora prevailed 10-1.

"That was kind of an upset," Cox said.

"That was a real good match," Kelseyville head coach Rob Brown added.

Other highlights for Kelseyville included Adryan Segura's 19-4 deciscion over Nick Davidson at 135 pounds and Thomas Esberg's first-round pin at 140 pounds.

Pleased with his team's performance the young Knights are now 3-1 through their first two CMC tri-meets Brown said wrestling against the Cougars is always a pleasure.

"They're a class act," Brown said. "When they win, they're very humble. They come out to do a job and they do it. If they lose, they lose with dignity."

In the only contested matches between Upper Lake and Point Arena, the Cougars notched victories at 112 pounds (Angel Hernandez), at 125 pounds (Simondi), 140 pounds (Davidson), 145 pounds (Tucker) and 152 pounds (Sneathen).

Upper Lake was making its conference debut after its original opener Jan. 20 in Middletown was postponed because of a storm that hit the area (Fort Bragg was unable to make the trip over to Middletown).
