Versatile senior quarterback Aaron Johnson, who led Longview to its second consecutive trip to the Class 4A Division I state championship game, was named Most Valuable Player on the 2009 District 13-4A All-District Football Team.

The team was selected by the league coaches today.

Other superlative honors went to Lobo teammate Bubba Vactor (defensive MVP), Texas High quarterback Nathan Sorenson (Offensive MVP), Sulphur Springs' Kody Chester (offensive newcomer) and Marshall defensive lineman Jensen Jackson (defensive newcomer).

John King, who led Longview to a 14-2 record and a 6-0 mark in the district, was named coach of the year.

Johnson was a dual threat quarterback for the Lobos, who occasionally played receiver, returned kicks and played in the defensive secondary. Johnson also took over as the team's punter when the starter was injured.

The University of Houston verbal completed 83 of 169 passes for 1,210 yards, eight touchdowns and one interception, rushed for 1,096 yards and 11 touchdowns on 130 carries and caught six passes for 123 yards.

Vactor racked up 85 tackles, five sacks and two fumble recoveries. Sorenson passed for 1,385 yards and 14 touchdowns and rushed for 659 yards and seven scores. Chester finished with 650 yards and six rushing touchdowns to go along with 11 receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown and Jackson — a defensive lineman — had 33 tackles, 11 tackles for losses and one sack.

Under King, the Lobos outscored six district opponents by a combined total of 265-62.
