The 2009 football season ended in mid-December but there will be plenty of action this weekend for those having pigskin withdrawal. The state of Texas will host two all-star games this weekend and some of the best talent in the nation will be showcased.
The annual U.S. Army All-American Bowl will be played at the Alamodome on Saturday. Kickoff is at noon and the game will be televised on NBC.
Two Central Texas kids will participate in the game. Cedar Park offensive lineman Dominic Espinosa, a Texas commit, will play on the West team and he may, at time, find himself blocking for Temple running back Lache Seastrunk.
Although the All-American Bowl has become famous for broadcasting college announcements, Seastrunk is not expected to have a baseball cap moment on Saturday.
Rivals.com has ranked Seastrunk as the fourth-best recruit in the country and the website reported on Tuesday that Seastrunk may narrow his list to possibly two or three schools this weekend. Oregon and the University of Southern California are reportedly the favorites to land Seastrunk’s services.
While the U.S. Army All-American Bowl is the marquee football game this weekend, it is not the only all-star game being played. Max Emfinger’s 2010 All-American Bowl Game Classic will be played on Saturday at the Round Rock ISD Athletic Complex with a kickoff scheduled for 4:10 p.m.
Eight Central Texas seniors are expected to appear at The Palace this weekend. On the West roster are Bowie WR Deandre Perry, Giddings DB Corey Brite, Lake Travis DE Trevor Gillette, Austin High DR Darrell Green, Lago Vista DB Jason Cormier, Lake Travis DB Hunter Akers, New Braunfels LB John Bordano and LBJ RB Cameron Brown.
