The thick blanket of fog that covered Kyle Field did not prevent Lake Travis from finding its place in the state championship game for the third straight year.
Quarterback Michael Brewer rushed or passed for a total of seven touchdowns as the Cavaliers dismantled playoff newcomer Pearland Dawson 57-12 in a Class 4A, Division I state semifinal Saturday afternoon.
For the second straight year, Lake Travis will play Longview for the 4A, Division I state title, the game taking place at 2 p.m. Saturday at Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco. Longview (14-1) defeated Denton Guyer 49-28 Saturday in another semifinal. A year ago, the Lobos lost to the Cavaliers 48-23.
The two-time defending state champion Cavaliers (15-0) won their 45th straight game with surprising ease, scoring touchdowns on eight of 10 offensive possessions through three quarters while also forcing five turnovers.
"I thought we had 'em after the first quarter, and we just kept our foot on the gas pedal," said Brewer, whose touchdown passes covered 27 and 34 yards. His five rushing touchdowns were from 6, 50, 1, 1 and 4 yards out.

Cavaliers coach Chad Morris earned his sixth trip to a state final, including a 4A, Division I championship in 2000 while at Bay City, and last year's state title with Lake Travis.
"It's been a staple of this team all year that they've been able to capitalize on the other team's mistakes," Morris said.
Lake Travis picked off four passes and recovered one fumble. The Cavaliers had a 504-281 edge in total yardage.
The game's pivotal moment was a fumble by Dawson running back Xavier Brown just six yards short of the Lake Travis end zone, on his team's first offensive possession. Lake Travis took advantage of the mistake and marched 94 yards on six plays, capped by Brewer's 27-yard touchdown pass to senior Andy Erickson.
"You could feel the momentum change from there," Cavaliers defensive end Trevor Gillette said.
Erickson complemented Brewer's seven-touchdown effort with 126 yards on four receptions, 83 yards rushing and three scores of his own.
"We play for fun, and going to the state championship is just another piece of the cake," Erickson said.
While Brewer and Erickson lit up Dawson, Lake Travis put a defensive blanket over the Eagles, who had averaged 30 points in their first four playoff games.
Junior linebacker Austin Williams had all of his team-leading nine tackles in the first half, and sophomore safety Colin Lagasse chipped in with eight tackles.
Lake Travis defensive end Shaquille Marable, who missed the first four playoff games with a broken foot, was involved in two tackles, including one of the Cavaliers' three sacks.
University of Utah-bound quarterback Darian Lazard, who had thrown only three interceptions in Dawson's first 14 games, was picked off four times by the Cavaliers.
Three interceptions in the first quarter — by linebackers Ian Lazarus and Quinton Crow and safety Taylor Wrinkle — were a big part of Dawson's inability to establish its offense. Lazard also was picked off in the fourth quarter by safety Omar Duke-Tinson.
Lake Travis, which has won all three of its state semifinal games at Kyle Field, did not punt until midway through the fourth quarter.
This marks the third straight year the Cavaliers will play for a state title in Waco.
