The record lows continue to fall in the Austin area.
A 109-year record fell about 5:45 this morning when the temperature dropped to 52 degrees at Camp Mabry, the National Weather Service reported. The previous record was 54 in 1900.
And although the low at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport didn’t fall, it was close, with a low of 48, 2 degrees off the mark set in 2002, the weather service said.
Today is expected to be a lot like yesterday, so if you play hooky, don’t be surprised to see your boss at the pool, too.
The high will be in the mid 80s with plenty of sun, the weather service said.
Temperatures are expected to heat up gradually this week, the weather service said.
Highs for the three-day Memorial Day weekend will be in the low 90s, the weather service said, and it will be mostly sunny.
Bob Rose, a meteorologist with the Lower Colorado River Authority, said that although lake levels are below normal levels, conditions will be great for the weekend. Water temperatures will be about 75 degrees, he said.
“The lakes are low, and there are some hazards just below the surface in more shallow areas. Stay careful and try to stay in the deeper part of the lake” Rose said. “But there’s still plenty of water.”
Lake Travis is about 19 feet below its normal level for May, Rose said, and Buchanan is 10 feet below.
