Austin City Council Approves Improvements at Barton Springs Pool

At its meeting Thursday, the Austin City Council:

Agreed to form a partnership with the Hill Country Conservancy to plan for and create a regional trail known as Walk for a Day.

Approved a $195,000 contract with Weatherproofing Technologies Inc. to install a new roof on the Barton Springs Pool bathhouse.

Added $98,000 to a $50,900 contract with Pickett, Kelm and Associates to evaluate and design repairs to the Barton Springs Pool bypass.

Chose Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc. to write a strategic mobility plan for no more than $1 million.

Agreed to prohibit playing loud music from watercraft.

Accepted a $20,000 grant to create a latex paint reblending pilot program.

Agreed to oppose other cities' requests to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to repeal a ban on discharging treated wastewater into the Highland Lakes, including Lake Austin and Lake Travis.

Directed city staff to develop a plan to increase pet adoptions and reduce the number of animals euthanized at the city's animal shelter.

Delayed until Dec. 10 a vote on zoning for a $200 million mixed-use development proposed by Houston-based Grayco Partners on East Riverside Drive at South Lakeshore Boulevard, along Lady Bird Lake.
