Austin is the largest city in the U.S. without a planetarium.
On Friday, Austin Planetarium efforts will converge for an intimate benefit to help fund the effort to build a planetarium in Austin.
One of our big supporters, Richard Garriott, who usually doesn't do this anymore, has opened up his home for us, spokesperson for Austin Planetarium, Torvald Hessel, said.
Guests will have an opportunity to go through the house to see the magical rooms. We have large tents set up with his science gadgets.
There's also a new and redesigned website if you're interested in astronomy and if you're interested in seeing Austin get a planetarium.
Hessel said a shocking statistic to Austinites when you figure that Austin has zero planetariums and the Dallas-Fort Worth area has 13.
Davis Architects, a local architectural firm, will be showing off their vision of an Austin Planetarium Friday at the event.
This will be a very large planetarium, science center and museum and a whole lot more things,Hessel said.
Tickets are still available for the function. Individual ticket prices are $1,000 and all of the money will go toward building the center.
Many notable people in the science and astronomy field will be at the event.
