Quarterback Nathan Thornhill threw for three touchdowns and ran in two more, accounting for more than 350 yards of offense and keeping Cedar Park undefeated in district play with a wild 55-45 victory Friday night over Round Rock.
The Timberwolves (4-2, 3-0 District 16-5A) never trailed, though the Dragons (2-4, 0-3) matched them score for score in a seesaw opening half that sent the teams to the locker room tied at 28-all.
Dylan Cox made three catches on the night, all for touchdowns — a pair of 21-yarders from Thornhill and a 17-yard strike from Brian Hogan on a halfback-option pass.
Thornhill finished with 213 rushing yards on 24 keepers and added another 141 yards through the air.
Round Rock could not contain Thornhill and the high-scoring Timberwolves, though two quick fourth quarter scores — Paul Jefferson's 75-yard return of a blocked field-goal attempt and James McKinney's third rushing touchdown from 4 yards out — trimmed Cedar Park's lead to 45-42 with 3:38 remaining.
Thornhill's 23-yard keeper sustained a drive capped by Bradley Willard's second rushing touchdown from 8 yards out to secure the victory.
