Lake Conroe bass event set

The Professional Anglers Association's top 60 will fire up their engines Oct. 16-18 for the 2009 Toyota Texas Bass Classic on Lake Conroe.

All weigh-ins and entertainment venues — featuring such stars as Pat Green and Julianne Hough — will be available to those who purchase advance tickets for $10 per day. Tickets at the tournament are $20 per day.

Weisuhn to speak to Safari Club

Larry Weisuhn is billed these days as "Mr. Whitetail." So maybe the biologist can tell hunters how to overcome the incredible acorn crop that's keeping deer feeding all night and away from most bow hunters right now.

Weisuhn is scheduled to speak at the Oct. 14 meeting of Safari Club International-Austin. The event at Dave & Buster's starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 for preregistered adults and $35 at the door. Children 13-18 are $15. Younger children are free. Dinner is included.

Llano DU sets first fundraiser

Members of the newly formed Llano Ducks Unlimited Lone Star Chapter have scheduled their first banquet and fundraiser on Oct. 15 at the American Legion Hall in Llano. The event will feature auctions and giveaways, as well as barbecue catered by Cooper's. Call Tory Virfeel, 325-247-5776.

Kayak demos set for weekend

MOC Kayaks has scheduled fall demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday.

More than 30 different kayaks will be available to test.
