On Monday when the Associated Press released its latest state polls, they looked pretty much like the previous week's, with no new teams cracking the 5A poll and only one newbie breaking into the 4A rankings. In fact, in Class 3A and A, there were absolutely no changes.
There was a minor shake-up in the middle of the Class 5A poll, as Round Rock Stony Point, which is still getting one first-place vote, moved up from No. 7 to No. 5, dropping Galena Park North Shore and Allen to Nos. 6 and 7, respectively. Cedar Hill is still sitting strong at No. 1 with 23 of the 25 first-place votes, while another DFW team, Dallas Skyline is at No. 2 with one first-place nod. Southlake Carroll is still at No. 10 after losing to North Shore a couple of weeks ago.
In Class 4A, previously ranked No. 3 Waco Midway endured a shocking loss, which dropped them to No. 10 and propelled Longview back up to No. 3 from No. 6, where the Lobos had dropped to after their loss to Lufkin two weeks ago. Lake Travis (6-0) is still securing the top spot after two straight state titles and garnered 23 of the 25 first-place votes with the other two going to Denton Guyer, which has a big game against undefeated Lake Dallas in two weeks. Waxahachie moved up a spot to No. 4 after a dismantling of its main rival, Ennis. Denton Ryan, which plays Lake Dallas on Thursday night, moved up two spots to No. 6 in the poll, one spot ahead of Highland Park, which also moved up two spots.
In Class 3A, Prosper is still the lone DFW representative at No. 7, but the Eagles have a big matchup on Friday as they travel to Argyle, which is also undefeated and is receiving votes in the state poll. I'll be covering that game and am predicting a mild upset with Argyle winning at home.
