Due to elevated levels of algae, the Austin Water Utility is continuing to monitor Lake Austin.
Tuesday AWU officials said a musty taste and odor is coming from the blue green algae.
The blue green algae are releasing the compounds as it is coming into full bloom.
According to officials, the water is safe to drink.
AWU has added activated carbon to the treatment process to absorb the compounds in the algae that are causing the taste and odor.
Austin tap water is in compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the Environmental Protection Agency Safe Drinking Water Act, according to City of Austin officials.
