Sam Wehmeyer didn't start the game. But, boy, did he finish it.

After being ejected from last week's loss to Akins, Wehmeyer sat out Anderson's first four series at Burger Stadium on Friday night. But his 30-yard pass to Cameron Gravelle with 49 seconds remaining gave Anderson a 25-20 win over Bowie.

Wehmeyer's final line wasn't overly impressive — 5 of 14 for 67 yards passing and 52 yards rushing — yet he gave his team a boost when needed most. After all, the Trojans hadn't scored a touchdown since the first quarter when they got the ball at Bowie's 48 with 2:20 remaining.

Wehmeyer completed three passes on the seven-play drive, two of which went to Gravelle, who finished with four catches for 61 yards.

Gravelle also intercepted Bowie quarterback Trevor Ingram's last-gasp heave near the goal line as time expired.

Anderson backup quarterback Justin Clark started in place of Wehmeyer and helped the Trojans (4-1, 1-1 District 25-5A) build a 16-14 halftime lead.

Following Sheldon Catley's 93-yard kickoff return, which gave Bowie (3-2, 0-2) a quick 7-0 advantage, Clark tossed a 10-yard touchdown to Javante Williamson on Anderson's opening drive.

A pair of special teams blunders also contributed to Bowie's early deficit. First, a poor snap forced punter Adam Harrison to swat the ball out of the end zone for a safety. Then, a 13-yard touchdown pass from holder Jeff Arnold to Taylor George on a fake field goal gave Anderson a 16-7 lead late in the first quarter.

De'Andre Perry, who finished with six catches for 131 yards and a touchdown, hauled in an 87-yard score to help lead Bowie back. And Brelyn Sorrells, who finished with 99 yards on 20 carries, scored on a 7-yard run late in the third quarter to give Bowie a 20-19 lead.
