ACLMost college football fans might not know what to with themselves during their favorite team’s bye week in the season.

However, every season, I look forward to Texas’ Saturday off because of one thing. The Austin City Limits Music Festival.

For once in the autumn, the city of Austin won’t be focused on Longhorns football.

October is always a month Longhorn fans and students look forward to, except for those pesky midterms.

The Red River Rivalry and ACL makes October one of the favorite months of the semester. It’s something that attracts many students to the University of Texas as well.

This weekend-long concert has quickly become an annual Austin tradition in the heart of Texas, which brings many headliners every October.

The festival brings in more than 130 bands and feature a number of genres. Zilker Park is packed with tens of thousands of visitors to attend this great Austin event. It’s quickly becoming one of the nation’s premier music festivals.

There’s always an artist for everyone to enjoy. From country to hip hop and everything in between, ACL has got it covered.

Past headliners have included Foo Fighters, Bob Dylan, John Mayer, Jack Johnson, Tom Petty, and many more.

This year’s acts include Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, Kings of Leon, Ben Harper and Relentless7, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Mos Def, John Legend, and hometown favorites Ghostland Observatory.

Last year’s bye week for Texas didn’t work out as scheduled. Hurricane-like conditions a couple weeks earlier against Arkansas had to postpone the game and re-schedule on the off Saturday. Texas fans’ passion was tested by making the tough decision to spend part of their Saturday on campus or in Zilker Park.

However, this upcoming weekend won’t be a difficult decision for me to choose. It’s a nice to enjoy the midseason break before Texas starts to really get into the heart of their schedule.

Who knows, maybe I’ll even catch a glimpse of some of the players in attendance.

The Longhorns at this point in the season just need the rest right now. Besides those pesky injuries, the players should enjoy the day off and take their mind off of football for once. Working too hard might lead to a 275-pound bar landing right on the juggular, just ask Southern California head coach Pete Carroll.

The only thing Texas needs to keep up is their excellent performance of late

My Saturday won’t involve me watching countless hours of college football in front of the television, wearing burnt orange, or heading to Darrell K Royal—Texas Memorial Stadium to attend the Longhorns game.

I’ll be at Zilker Park enjoying the delightful sounds and party.
