Lake Travis is the king of Class 5A football in Central Texas.

The Cavaliers, two-time Class 4A state champs, completed their three-game sweep of 5A nondistrict teams by hammering Cedar Park 54-17 Thursday night at Bible Memorial Stadium.

By beating Westwood, Westlake and Cedar Park in succession, the Cavaliers might have cleared their biggest hurdles to another unbeaten regular season. They improved their state-best winning streak to 33 games in the surprising mismatch.

The Cavaliers' trio of quarterback Michael Brewer, running back Andy Erickson and receiver Connor Floyd had little trouble moving the football against the Timberwolves, who boast one of the area's top defenses.

Brewer passed for 365 yards and three touchdowns, Erickson combined for 138 rushing and receiving yards and three touchdowns, and Floyd caught nine passes for 156 yards.

"I never envisioned it would be exactly like this," said Lake Travis coach Chad Morris, referring to his team's lopsided victory. "But we have to stay hungry. We've played three quality opponents, and I thought our defense rose to the occasion tonight."

Lake Travis, ranked second in 4A, has outscored its first three opponents by a combined 151-62.

The 5-foot-7-inch Erickson used his quickness to dart through Cedar Park's defense. The 6-foot-1 Floyd used a slight size advantage against shorter competition, catching seven of his passes for 101 yards in the first half to help the Cavs earn a 37-7 halftime lead.

Lake Travis punted on its first possession, then scored seven straight times to lead 51-10 after three quarters.

The Brewer-to-Floyd connection was particularly impressive. Floyd finished with nine catches for 156 yards.

"We've been playing with each other since the third grade," Brewer said.

Morris said the Cavaliers have responded well in the absence of All-State quarterback Garrett Gilbert, now with the University of Texas. Brewer has thrown for more than 1,100 yards, 11 touchdowns and only one interception through three games.

"We've had the Garrett (departure) thrown in our faces a lot," Morris said. "This team has done a good job of creating its own identity."

Lake Travis was equally impressive on defense, harassing Cedar Park quarterback Nathan Thornhill with a fierce pass rush.

Defensive end Shaquille Marable, linebacker Ian Lazarus and safety Colin Lagasse were among many Lake Travis defensive players who played well.

Lake Travis completes its nondistrict schedule next Friday against Boerne High, a late replacement to Shreveport Evangel Christian, which pulled out of its scheduled game against the Cavaliers. The Cavs will be heavy favorites to run through their District 25-4A schedule.

Cedar Park (1-2) has a bye week before opening its district schedule Sept. 25 at Georgetown.
