GAME OF THE WEEK

Austin High at Westwood, 7:30 p.m. Friday

The Maroons have opened the season with a pair of victories, led by senior quarterback Jacob Morgan, who has thrown for eight touchdowns against only one interception. His top two receivers are Thomas Coffman and Cayleb Jones, who have combined for 502 yards and seven scores. After slipping past Harker Heights 34-31 in its opener, Austin High topped McCallum 34-13 Friday. The Maroons forced a combined seven turnovers in those two games.

Westwood opened the season with a disappointing 55-31 loss to Lake Travis, but the Warriors rebounded to beat Harker Heights 35-7 last week. Running back Princeton Collins, who has committed to Utah, has averaged 126.5 yards rushing, and he had a 46-touchdown catch against Harker Heights. In a close contest, Westwood might have the edge in kicker Jordan Williamson, who has committed to Stanford. He booted a 47-yard field goal in the loss to Lake Travis.

Five more worth watching

Thursday

Lake Travis at Cedar Park, 7 p.m. (Round Rock ISD Stadium)

Friday

Converse Judson at Pflugerville (Kuempel Stadium)

A&M Consolidated at Westlake

Marble Falls at Burnet

Lexington at Cameron, Friday

Note: Friday games at 7:30 p.m.

TAKE THREE

Three things you should be talking about this week:

1. Staying up late for a win. After a 21/2-hour weather delay Friday night, Smithville wrapped up its 28-12 victory over Wharton after midnight. The loss came in the season opener for Wharton, which had a scrimmage and a scheduled game against Rice Consolidated on Aug. 28 cancelled because of inclement weather.

2. Can Westwood slow down Austin High's pass-happy offense? Maroons quarterback Jacob Morgan has thrown for 644 yards in his first two games. Now he faces Westwood, which gave up 379 yards passing to Michael Brewer in a season-opening loss to Lake Travis.

3. Forecast calls for football, right? How do the teams sidelined by last week's stormy weather emerge from the unscheduled bye week? Did the break do them good or set them back?

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Layton Dworaczyk, running back, Blanco

The senior put on a one-man show against Luling, rushing for 317 yards on 39 carries. In a 33-26 victory, Dworaczyk scored 32 of his team's points. That including five touchdowns on runs of 2, 9, 7, 6 and 2 yards. He also scored on a two-point conversion as the Panthers evened their record at 1-1.

GAME BALLS

Jacob Moore, quarterback, Dripping Springs: Moore scored all three of his team's touchdowns in a 24-0 victory over Wimberley. He tore through the Texans for 322 total yards — 205 on the ground, 115 through the air.

David Fulgencio, linebacker, Stony Point: The senior intercepted two Connally passes — with one pick resulting in a 28-yard touchdown return — and helped the Tigers limit the Cougars to a field goal.

Michael Brewer, quarterback, Lake Travis: In his second start, the junior completed 23 of 30 passes for 414 yards and a touchdown, and he also ran for three TDs in a 42-21 victory over Westlake.

Mark Jackson, wide receiver/safety, Taylor: The senior scored five TDs — two on pass receptions, one rushing, one on a 74-yard kickoff return and another on a 90-yard interception return — as Taylor defeated Manor 46-28.

Luke Seeker, running back, St. Michaels: In a 49-10 victory over Houston Austin, Seeker rushed for 169 yards and three TDs on just 13 carries. He added one catch for 23 yards as St. Michael's improved to 2-0.

Zed Woerner, quarterback, Marble Falls: Woerner completed 11 of 12 passes for 256 yards and 4 TDs in a 51-6 victory over Crockett.
