On Friday night, Michael Brewer passed another test at Quarterback High.
Brewer passed for 414 yards and accounted for four touchdowns to lead Lake Travis to a 42-21 win over Westlake. Brewer, who threw for 379 yards in a season-opening victory over Westwood, is in his first year as the Cavaliers' starting quarterback, a position held in the past four years by current University of Kansas quarterback Todd Reesing and Garrett Gilbert, now a backup at the University of Texas.
With the win, Lake Travis extended its winning streak to 32 games. A two-time defending state champion, Lake Travis hasn't lost since a 28-21 setback to Westlake in 2007.
"He's emerged a lot," Lake Travis wide receiver Andy Erickson said of Brewer. "Garrett is at Texas now, and he's doing great; and now we have Michael Brewer as our quarterback, and he's doing a good job."
"He's going to be a very special quarterback," said Westlake coach Darren Allman. "He already is."

The game's outcome was forecast in each team's opening drives. After sitting through a lightning delay that delayed the game's start by an hour, both teams drove deep into their opponent's territory, but only Lake Travis was able to come away with points.
Westlake received the opening kickoff, and it took the Chaparrals two plays to get into the Lake Travis red zone.
The Chaparrals eventually faced a third-and-goal from the Lake Travis 5, but a good Cavalier pass rush forced Westlake quarterback Tanner Price into a bad pass that Hunter Akers picked off in the end zone.
After Akers stumbled out of the end zone to his own 3, the Cavaliers took over and drove down the field for the game's first points.
Fueled by two Conner Floyd receptions and a Westlake pass-interference penalty, Lake Travis reached the Westlake 2.
However, two incomplete passes and a penalty forced the Cavaliers to settle for a 24-yard field goal from senior Kramer Fyfe.
The Cavaliers led for the rest of the game.
"It was the beginning of the game, and it's a four-quarter game, but it was nice to score first," Erickson said.
After Fyfe's field goal, Brewer took over the first-half scoring responsibilities with two touchdown runs. Brewer also picked apart the Westlake defense in the first half, throwing for 210 yards.
Westlake was able to pull within 10-7 during the second quarter, but Brewer's second touchdown run of the night, a two-point conversion and another field goal from Fyfe sent Lake Travis into halftime with a 21-7 lead.
Westlake scored twice in the fourth quarter but was never able to get any closer than 14 points. Brewer kept the Chaparrals at bay with a touchdown pass and a touchdown run in the second half.
"I thought it was a good overall night for the team," said Brewer, who was quick to credit his offensive line and wide receivers. "That's all you can ask for."
Lake Travis (2-0) will look to extend its winning streak to 33 games next week against Cedar Park, a Class 5A school that could be the last threat to the Cavaliers' streak until the playoffs.
Lake Travis closes its non-district schedule against Boerne before taking on the six district opponents it outscored 315-46 last year.
Westlake (1-1) will host A&M Consolidated next week.
