Volente Beach Resort & Waterpark has transformed into Haunted Shores: The Abandoned Waterpark for the Halloween season. The walk-through is packed with haunted scenes, costumed characters and jump scares, and it's pitched as a family-friendly scare for kids, teens and adults alike. It runs through Oct. 31.

Haunted Shores is open Wednesday through Sunday in October and every night during Halloween week, with entry times from 7 p.m. on weeknights and as late as 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Saturdays and Sundays add a 6 p.m. slot, which is a good fit for younger kids who'd rather go while it's still light out.

On Fridays and Saturdays, visitors can add the BOOgie Boat Ride, a nighttime cruise around Starnes Island on Lake Travis, limited to 50 guests per trip. Listed tickets are $10 for ages 3-12 and $15 for ages 13 and up, with kids 2 and under free, and the boat ride is a separate add-on. Entry times are limited, so it's worth booking ahead. Beachside Billy's opens at 5 p.m. for dinner and themed cocktails before your time slot.
