Gulf disturbance nears Texas on Friday. Here’s what weather changes to expect

A weak atmospheric disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico is expected to bring some moisture into South Texas on Friday, following several days of extreme heat driven by high pressure. San Antonio recently hit 100 degrees, but Friday should see slightly milder conditions with highs of 97–98 degrees, increased cloudiness, and high humidity keeping heat indexes near 105. Rain chances remain low inland—around 10% for San Antonio, mostly in the late afternoon—while coastal areas like Rockport, Victoria, and Houston see 20–30% odds of scattered showers and storms.

High pressure is forecast to strengthen again over the weekend, pushing temperatures back toward 99–100 degrees with heat indexes up to 106 and little chance of rain. This hot, dry pattern is expected to continue through most of next week, with upper-90s to near-100 highs and morning lows in the upper 70s. A potential shift toward cooler temperatures and higher rain chances may arrive around Aug. 22–25 as the high pressure finally weakens, though that remains uncertain this far out.
