Jacobs Well is flowing again after Texas storms

Water is once again spilling from Jacob’s Well in Wimberley after mid-July storms recharged the underground supply that feeds the iconic Hill Country artesian spring. The recent heavy rains have restored visible flow and raised water levels, giving visitors a rare glimpse of the spring resembling its former self following years of prolonged drought and heavy local groundwater pumping from the Trinity Aquifer.

The popular swimming hole has been closed to the public since June 2022 due to chronically low or zero flow. While current conditions mark the strongest recovery in years (around 2 cubic feet per second), officials note that sustained flow closer to the historical average of 4–6 cfs will be needed before swimming can safely resume; the natural area remains open for hiking and guided tours in the meantime.
