What we know about the deadly Texas boat crash that killed a 16-year-old

Texas Game Wardens are investigating a deadly boat crash that occurred early Saturday morning, July 25, near the Bird Island Basin boat ramp on the Laguna Madre in Kleberg County. Around 6:15 a.m., officers from Nueces and Kleberg counties responded to a collision involving a jon boat carrying three people and a center console boat. During the impact, a 16-year-old boy was ejected from the jon boat and did not survive.

The Texas Game Warden Boat Accident Reconstruction Team is leading the active investigation, and officials have not released the identities of those involved or the cause of the crash. Multiple agencies assisted in the response, including the Kleberg County Sheriff’s Office, Padre Island National Seashore Rangers, Corpus Christi Police and Fire departments, and U.S. Border Patrol. Game Wardens expressed their condolences to the teenager’s family.
