Lakeway City Council recently discussed a $37 million economic incentive request for The Square at Lakeway, a proposed mixed-use development. At the July 13 meeting, officials reviewed the Chapter 380 agreement that would provide performance-based rebates on property and sales taxes generated by the project itself. This follows earlier proposals for a larger incentive package (around $47 million) that had been paused or adjusted in prior discussions.
The development, located along Lohmans Crossing Road, aims to create a centralized civic, retail, and residential core with significant commercial space, public amenities like a park, and long-term tax base growth for the city. Supporters argue the incentives will stimulate economic activity, attract businesses, create jobs, and deliver higher-quality development, while the agreement includes strict criteria and controls to ensure public benefits are realized over its multi-year term.
