Longhorn practiceThey came early, they were loud, they stayed late, they wore orange, and they brought umbrellas for the rain. It was standing room only as hundreds packed a practice for a peek at this year’s Longhorns Wednesday night.

The polls say this is the No. 2 team in the country but they’re number one with fans. There is no way crowds would miss the first free practice.

“This is an annual event for me. I’ve been a longhorn fan since I was nine years old,” Dennis Terry said.

From little Longhorns to Tall Texans, everyone enjoys getting an up close and personal look at their favorite team.

“It’s great. I mean it’s great to watch all the players just run and do their stuff,” fan Bryce Naiver said.

Fans say this is a team that could go all the way to the National Championship. They’ve seen the ESPN Poll that predicts a Texas and Florida match up for college football’s title.

“At this level it takes a lot of luck and I think there is some magic about this team and I think they will make it to the Rose Bowl,” fan Bill Lauderback said.

But before the fans and the team can go from here to a bowl game, they’ll have to wait until the season starts. There are still 24 days left before that happens.

The Longhorns will hold another practice Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Denius Field.
