Debris piling up in Lake Travis

The flood waters that resulted from the weekend brought plenty of water into Lake Travis, and plenty of debris.

After Saturday night's storm, litter and debris covered Lake Travis from shore to shore.

"It was just a tremendous amount of debris," said Danny Dawdy, Executive Director of the Highland Lakes Camp and Conference Center in Pace Bend Park.

The flood waters that resulted from the weekend brought plenty of water into Lake Travis, and plenty of debris.

By Wednesday afternoon, the bulk of the wood had drifted down the lake away from the center and is settling into coves along the lake, but rogue docks were still scattered in the usually clear part of the lake.

"People from the Pedernales River area have been coming over, all into this area looking for their docks," said Dawdy.

LCRA experts say the remaining debris will settle along the shoreline then sink. A process that could take three to six weeks. Crews will remove what doesn't sink from the main channels.

Until then, boaters are advised to use extreme caution and people should not get into the water because bacteria levels are elevated. It's also not too late to secure docks to keep them from floating off.
