10 p.m. update: Sheriff’s officials say the man driving a boat that ran over a woman in Lake Travis has not been criminally charged.

Sheriff’s spokesman Roger Wade said detectives initially believed the man to be intoxicated, but further testing did not prove he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The man, who was not identified by the Sheriff’s Office, was arrested, but will be released from custody, Wade said.

Detectives continued to investigate the boating accident, he said.

8:45 p.m. update: Travis County sheriff’s officials say the man driving a boat that ran over a woman in Lake Travis on Friday has been charged with intoxication assault.

The 19-year-old man, who was not identified by the Sheriff’s Office, was operating a ski boat near Starnes Island when he struck an injured a woman in the water about 4:30 p.m., officials said.

The 20-year-old woman was swimming to the boat when the driver accelerated and struck her with the boat’s propeller, said Roger Wade, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.

She suffered lacerations and was flown to University Medical Center Brackenridge where she underwent surgery, Wade said. He did not know her condition.

Her injuries did not include any amputations, he said.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the man and woman are visiting Austin from Canada.

Earlier: A woman who had been cut by a boat propeller was rescued Friday from Lake Travis near Starnes Island, according to Austin-Travis County EMS officials.

Rescuers were called out about 4:30 p.m. to the 5900 block of Hiline Road near West Beach Cove in western Travis County, according to emergency dispatch reports.

The woman was taken by helicopter to University Medical Center Brackenridge with serious traumatic injuries, EMS officials said.
