A dramatic cliff rescue happened in Southwest Travis County at Reimers Ranch Park Sunday morning.
Emergency crews rushed to help a woman who had fallen 13 feet while on the climbing wall at Reimers Ranch Park on Hamilton Pool Road. Starflight was called in to help bring her to safety.
"The helicopter short hauled the patient out of the cliff," said Lt. Adam Lear, acting battalion chief for Lake Travis Fire Department. "The patient was stable when she was put in the back of the ambulance."
The unidentified climber suffered a broken leg. She was taken to University Medical Center at Brackenridge.
"This is a big recreational climbing area," Lear said. "It's not uncommon for us to get calls like this out here."
Other climbers in the area said the accident underscores the need for training and safety while on the rocks.
"You always have to make sure you take all the proper precautions" climber Melissa Boyette said. "You need to have classes and experience, and really know what you're doing before you come outside and try to get on a rock. You don't want to put yourself in an unsafe situation."
