A 60-year-old Houston area man drowned Sunday afternoon in Lake Travis while swimming with friends near Ridge Harbor.
John Javadi was trying to swim from Ridge Harbor to Turkey Bend on the other side of the lake at about 1:30 p.m. when he began to struggle to stay afloat, witnesses said, according to Lower Colorado River Authority spokeswoman Clara Tuma.
Friends tried to swim to Javadi's aid, but he sank below the surface before they could reach him, Tuma said.
Witnesses alerted law enforcement authorities, a search was begun and Javadi's body was recovered at about 8 p.m. Sunday, Tuma said.
