The extreme heat wave that has gripped Central Texas and other areas will continue today, and a heat advisory remains in effect until tonight, the National Weather Service says.
Today’s high could reach 103 degrees, the service said.
There’s also a 20 percent chance of rain in the forecast, starting tonight and into tomorrow.
With a heat advisory in effect until tonight, however, it’s still possible today’s heat index, or “feels like” temperature, could still reach 105 or higher, the service said, and lows will briefly go below the 80s before sunrise.
“Heat stroke, heat cramps or heat exhaustion are likely with prolonged exposure and physical activity,” the service said. “Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.”
People are also advised to drink plenty of fluids, to wear light clothing and to limit strenuous activity outside to early morning or evening hours, the service said. Also, under no circumstance should children and pets be left in unattended vehicles where temperatures can soar to lethal levels.
