A benefit for the Austin Humane society fit for beast -- or in this case a lil' guy named Beaster -- is aiming at lending a hand to some of his K-9 friends.
The fundraiser called, "Maritnis & Bikinis" at Capitol Surf Snow Skate is selling charitable tickets for $5. Proceeds will benefit the Austin Humane Society.
Owner Cortney Hope has shared the past seven years with her dog Beaster and her surfboard.
His nickname is "The Surfing Dog," and he's no newcomer to the sport.
"He one day decided he wanted to jump up on the back of the board when I was surfing, so were like, 'Well, maybe we can do something with this,'" said Hope.
The K-9 pro and his owner have been riding the waves together for a while; Hope said she's always been surfing, and Beaster joined right in.
"My life has always been surfing and hanging out on the lake and stuff, and I've had him for the last seven years," said Hope. "Ever since then, he goes out surfing with me and chills on the board when I surf."
When asked about what her favorite part of the ride is Hope said, "The whole sport, you get to ride the wave. And I don’t live on the ocean, so I get to surf and ... the feel of the water and just summer. It's beautiful out here. I get to enjoy this all the time."
The Humane society event is sponsored by Austin Event Stylists, Social Ding, Austin Boats & Motors, Hydrotunes Sound Systems, Austin Surf Company and Miss High Life.
