After the unexpected resignation of Superintendent Rocky Kirk last week, the Lake Travis school board this morning named an interim superintendent and a search firm to find the district’s next leader.

The board named Susan Bohn to the temporary post and selected School Executive Consulting, Inc. to begin the search for a new superintendent.

Bohn has been with the district since 2006, most recently serving as deputy superintendent and general counsel. A former teacher, Bohn’s role as deputy superintendent has included supervising campus principals, communications and community programs, among other duties. She also previously was an attorney in private practice working with public school districts.

Kirk resigned last week after being on paid personal leave for at least a couple of weeks. His resignation is effective July 31. The district will pay Kirk a settlement of $77,000 upon separation. Kirk was one of the highest-paid superintendents in Central Texas, earning approximately $273,000, including benefits.

District officials did not provide further explanation for the resignation but cited “personal reasons” for Kirk’s departure.

Bohn takes the helm as the district puts before voters a November $158.5 million bond package package that calls for building two schools, expanding two schools, upgrading facilities and making other improvements.
